He’s also an adjunct professor at Stephen F. Austin State University in the Mass Communications department. While at KTRE-9, he launched “Noticias Breves,” a Spanish-language local news brief for the Telemundo station, and the ‘East Texas Throwback’ series.
John-Carlos arrived to the Pineywoods from Victoria, Texas, where he served as KAVU-ABC’s lead news anchor and producer.
Prior to KAVU-ABC, he was in New York City working as a news writer at MSNBC’s “The Cycle” and NBC’s “Weekend Today.”
While in NYC, he also received his M.S. in Broadcast Journalism from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. At Columbia, he covered the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the 2012 election and the rise of stay-at-home dads in New York.
John-Carlos began his broadcasting career at ABC News’ Washington bureau working as a production assistant for “Good Morning America,” “World News Tonight” and “This Week.” He attended The George Washington University in Washington, DC and earned a B.A. in International Affairs.
He was born in Dallas and raised in the suburb of Garland, Texas. He’s an avid marathon runner — he has competed in the Philadelphia Marathon and the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC. Click here to contact John-Carlos.
